An abundance of slots is one reason why sweepstakes casinos stand out as the best places to play. Virtual coins make it easy to play for fun, but sweep coins are also gifted to you occasionally, redeemable for prizes.

As these coins are awarded daily, it’s easy to play your favorite games and find new ones to add to your list without ever making a purchase.

Types of Sweepstakes Slots

Sweepstakes slots come in a range of game types, and most casinos offer several of them.

5- or 6-Reel Slots

It varies, but most slots at sweepstakes casinos have five or six reels. They don’t always have bonus features, and those without them are referred to as 5-reel or 6-reel slots. While less common, you might also find 4-reel slot games.

Bonus Buy or Feature Buy

Bonus buy slots are also known as feature buy slots. You can pay a fee to increase the odds of triggering the bonus round or to actually trigger it.

For example, in Evoplay’s Cycle of Luck, you can increase your bet by 36x to automatically trigger the bonus feature. On the 3,000 GC minimum bet, the “Play the Feature” bet is 108,000 GC.

Bonus Slots

Bonus slots have special features that lead to rewards like free spins, instant cash prizes, a spin on a prize wheel, or pick ’em games where you choose items on the screen to win multipliers. Many pick ’em games keep going until you find the stopper or word “stop.” The games with bonus features may have 3 or more reels.

Classic 3-Reel Games

Some 3-reel slots have bonus features, but many are standard slot games with no extra features. To win prizes, you have to line up symbols on the center reel, or in some cases these may have a maximum of 9 paylines.

Hold and Win

Hold and win slots are games in which the bonus feature involves getting re-spins while trying to fill as many spaces as possible with the gold coins or other symbols that award a cash prize when the feature ends. With most hold and win slots, you get three re-spins that reset each time a new symbol joins the others held on the reels. Filling all spaces on the reels awards a giant jackpot.

Megaways

Megaways slots typically have oversized symbols that boost the number of possible paylines. They can also have reels that expand with winning combinations. Each win increases the size of the grid or opens new rows or reels, so there are well over 100,000 ways to win.

Other megaways slots have an extra row above the main game grid, and those extra symbols help increase the number of possible pay lines. The benefit of a megaways slot is you have “mega” ways to win.

Progressives

Progressive jackpot slots have jackpots you win randomly or by lining up five symbols on the correct payline. The jackpots are often much larger than the base game prizes, and they keep growing until a player wins them.

Tumbling Reels

Finally, tumbling reels slots are a type of slot where winning symbols in a pay line fall from the reels. The remaining symbols drop one space to allow new symbols to fall into place and form more winning pay lines on that one spin. You might also find these games referred to as cascading reels.

Sweepstakes Casino Slots vs Real Money Casino Slots

While you play sweepstakes casino slots for virtual currency, there are also casinos like Caesars and BetMGM that offer real money casino slots. While the games and gameplay are similar, there are a couple of noticeable differences.

When you play in a region where real money casinos are available, you play slot games for real money. This also means you risk money you’ve deposited through the casino’s cashier or claimed through no-deposit bonuses. Because there is that level of frustration if you’re watching your funds deplete and you’re not hitting a winning streak, I find sweepstakes casinos far more enjoyable.

With a sweepstakes casino, you can play for fun with Gold Coins. However, you do have sweepstakes coins (SC) that you can use in the games. These sweeps coins are redeemable for prizes, so you are able to win real prizes.

It may not be as much as you want, but I won 1100 SC on a slot this morning at Fortune Coins, and 1 SC is the equivalent of $1 there. And I never made a purchase, so it’s free.

Best Sweepstakes Slot Casinos

Finding the best sweepstakes casino for slots comes from your location and personal experience. Not every sweepstakes casino welcomes players from every state in the U.S. For example, Stake.us excludes Vermonters, which means I can only play there when I’m traveling out of state.

Chumba Casino

Chumba Casino is my favorite social casino. The 200,000 GC and 1 SC that’s awarded each day that I log in does build up quickly. I’ve never run out of coins with the casino’s generous log-in bundles. Plus, the game selection is tremendous. Over 180 sweepstakes casino slots are available, but there is also an abundance of scratch cards, arcade games, table games, and a Bingo area.

Chumba has been one of the most popular sweepstakes casinos for a long time, so if you’ve already signed up you can check out these Chumba Casino alternatives.

Crown Coins

Crown Coins provides an ample amount of GC and Crown Coins when you log in. The range of slots isn’t as great as in other casinos, but some unique titles make this sweeps casino stand out. Plus, the casino has one of the largest selections of new slots and progressive jackpot games of any of the casinos I rely on.

Fortune Coins

Fortune Coins has more than 200 slot games of varying themes and game types. The casino has one of the most generous free bundles awarded each day when you sign in, which makes it one of my favorites. When I logged in this morning, I immediately received 300,000 GC and 100 FC with the daily Fortune Coins no-deposit bonus. Plus, you get extra coins if you connect your Google account.

McLuck Casino

McLuck Casino boasts a strong selection of slots with more than 700 games. You don’t get a load of coins for your daily login, but there are enough to have fun before moving on to the next sweeps casino on your list. Plus, my first experience playing with SC led to free spins on my second spin. I doubled the SC I started with.

Pulsz

Pulsz doesn’t give out as many virtual coins as other sweepstakes casinos, but it has the Pulsz no-deposit bonus and a fantastic game selection. There are more than 400 slots available, including tumble reels, bonus buy, hold and win, and megaways games.

Sweeptastic

Sweeptastic has more than 1,000 games from leading developers like Betsoft, BGaming, Booming Games, Belatra, Gameart, and 1Spin4Win. Most of the offerings are slots, but there are also a variety of dice and table games. This is on my top list of sweepstakes casinos due to the number of new slots that are available. There’s almost always a new game to play each week.

WOW Vegas

Hands down, WOW Vegas Casino gets my award for the best variety of games, with over 850 slots found within the sweepstakes casino. I love the graphics on 3D slots from Betsoft, and they’re all available here. While other casinos make it clear how many coins you get with your daily login, I find it harder to track at WOW Vegas. The coins I receive never show up in my transaction history, but that’s a minor complaint. The games here make it worth it.

How To Choose the Best Sweepstakes Slot Casinos

I look for several things when choosing a place to play slots. First and foremost, there needs to be an abundance of games. If the sweepstakes casino only has 50 games, I know that in a week or two, I’ll be bored. The availability of games matters the most to me.

Next up are RTPs on those slots. If one casino has a game with an RTP of 94% and another has a similar game with an RTP of 97%, the higher percentage is more appealing. While the RTP isn’t a guarantee you’ll win, the higher the RTP, the better the odds. My goal while playing slots is to win back as much as I wager, and games with a higher RTP do a better job of that.

I want to play games that appeal to me. One of my favorite games, Cash Bandits 3, has a pick ’em game that I never get tired of. I return to the slot game time and time again just to play the safecracking bonus feature and see how many vaults I’ll open. While I enjoy free spins, I find I like playing a game like the one in Cash Bandits 3 to earn as many free spins and multipliers as I can.

Because I get free GC and SC each time I log into a sweepstakes casino, there are wagering requirements to consider on the SC. Typically, it’s 1x, so it’s not substantial. In many casinos, jackpot slots do not count toward the wagering requirement. If I know I have a wagering requirement to meet, I stick to slots that have a wagering contribution of 100%.

Best Sweepstakes Slots For Real Money

When I’m playing sweepstakes slots, there are certain games that I’ve marked as favorites as I find myself winning more often on those games than others. RTP plays a big part of it. Here are my top five picks for the best sweepstakes slots.

Big Bass Bonanza (Reel Kingdom/Pragmatic Play)

The very first time I played this fishing-themed slot, I hit the bonus round in just a few spins. I’ve had similar luck every time since, and the RTP of 96.71% is a big reason why I have so much luck playing it. Prizes of up to 2,100 times your bet are possible in the base game and free spins bonus round.

Epic Joker (Relax Gaming)

This 3-reel slot has one of the highest RTPs (97%) I’ve seen on a slot game. A 3 x 3 game grid offers 5 paylines and prizes of up to 100x with three jokers. Win a re-spin if three joker symbols fill the center reel, and win five free spins if you get nine matching symbols on the grid. Because symbols are stacked, it’s easier to do than you might think.

Monster Hunt (BGaming)

While the base game’s lowest RTP is 94.65%, the bonus feature increases it to as much as 97.13%. I’ve found that it’s worth paying the fee to trigger the free spins bonus round. Paying a 2,000 GC pay-to-play fee, I won 4,350 GC on this horror slot game. In the base game, I won payouts on three of the first five spins for prizes of 30, 30, and 120 GC. It’s impressive.

Sugar Rush (Pragmatic Play)

With payouts of up to 5,000x on each spin, this clusters-pays game is one of the best. The RTP is 96.5%, putting it well over the 96% minimum I always aim for. As winning combinations form, they leave the grid and new symbols fill their spaces and add a multiplier symbol that increases by 1x with each additional win.

Starburst (NetEnt)

Payouts of up to 50,000 coins are available on Starburst. It’s the RTP of 96.09% that launched this gem-themed game onto my list of favorite slots. The multicolored gem expands to fill the center reel and awards a re-spin, which never fails to lead to generous payouts. In my first spin this session, I got the wild gem and won 61 GC on a 7.5 GC wager. That’s the experience I always have.

How to Choose the Best Sweeps Slots

You’ll find that your favorite slots may not be the same as others, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I have games I love, and the games I dislike often get rave reviews from others. Personal choice is important.

Use GC to explore the games and see what you like. Most of the time, it’s going to come down to one of these things.

  • Slot Type: Are you drawn to 5-reel or 6-reel games? Do you prefer classic 3-reel slots? Are games with progressive jackpots or bonus rounds more to your liking?
  • Game RTP: My tip is to stick to slots with a game RTP of 96% or higher. You’ll usually find this information under the paytable and game rules.
  • Payouts: As you look at the paytable, are the prizes worthwhile?
  • Bonus Round: Do you prefer a free spins bonus or are pick ’em games more fun?

Sweepstakes Slots Bonus Offers

When you play sweepstakes slots, you choose if you want to play with GC, which is strictly playing for fun, or SC, which opens the door to winning SC that you can then redeem for prizes. Sweeps casinos give SC as gifts through welcome bonuses and then daily sign-in rewards.

Welcome Bonuses

All new players receive a sweepstakes no-deposit welcome bonus that includes a bundle of GC and SC. After that, log in daily to get more. Sometimes, there’s a prize wheel you spin every few hours to try to win SC. You’ll also win them playing games and in tournaments.

First Purchase Bundle

If you want to purchase a coin bundle, you’re welcome to. It’s never an obligation,  however. If you do purchase a bundle, you’re buying GC. Casinos offer gifts of SC with your purchase. The discounts for first purchases are substantial. For example, Chumba Casino slashes the price of a coin bundle by approximately 60% if it’s your first purchase. You get 10 million GC and 30 free SC for just $10.

Can You Purchase Bonus Rounds on Sweepstakes Slot Games?

Yes, you can buy or buy the bonus game on any game marked as a bonus. One popular feature of certain slot games is the ability to purchase the bonus round. There are two ways this works. The first is that you pay a slightly higher bid to increase the odds of triggering the bonus round.

What’s more common is to pay a fee and automatically trigger the bonus round. Bonus buy slots can be a bit more expensive if you do pay the fee, but I usually have good luck and win far more than I spent triggering it.

New Sweepstakes Slots

Within the first quarter of 2024, several new slots have been released from the top sweepstakes slot developers and have slowly begun to show up across all the best sweepstakes casinos.

Clover Goes Wild

  • Game Developer: Gameart
  • Release Date: March 12, 2024

While I haven’t had a lot of luck on this Irish-themed slot without buying the bonus free spins, I know other players who have won large payouts. Bonus features include free spins played on four different reel sets. The RTP is 96.13%, but it increases to 96.62% if you buy the bonus. Because you can buy the bonus, it becomes very rewarding.

Rockstar World Tour: Hold & Win

  • Game Developer: Betsoft
  • Release Date: January 25, 2024

With an RTP of 96.42%, Rockstar World Tour is a music-themed slot I am happy to recommend. Betsoft is known for its fun bonus rounds, rocking audio, and gorgeous graphics, and this game delivers. Plus, you can buy the bonus if you’re willing to pay the fee of 30x, 45x, 60x, or 70x.

Shining Royal 100

  • Game Developer: Gameart
  • Release Date: January 23, 2024

Classic fruit symbols fill the reels of this 100 payline game. While there are expanding wilds and scatters, there are no bonus features in this take on a classic slot. It does have a high RTP of 96.45%. I love having bonus features, but this one tops my list as each spin I make usually leads to my wager being returned through a winning payline.

Take the Vault – Hold & Win

  • Game Developer: Betsoft
  • Release Date: February 29, 2024

I’m a fan of the entire Take the Vault series of games as every Bandit symbol on the reels adds a ticking bomb. When the countdown hits 0, those bombs explode and turn into a wild. With an RTP of 96.21%, this game is one of my favorites.

Tiger’s Luck Hold & Win

  • Game Developer: Betsoft
  • Release Date: March 14, 2024

Betsoft games are known for having some of the best RTPs around, and it’s 96.52% for this hold & win slot. Sticky wilds cling to the reels to help form larger payouts as you play, adding to the excitement.

Sweepstakes Slots Tips & Tricks

Your experience playing any slot game is going to come down to luck. Casino games like slots are games of chance. But, there are a few tricks I use to optimize my use of bonus funds and win more on sweepstakes casino apps.

  • Choose games with an RTP over 96%.
  • Look for games with multiple bonus features.
  • See what games are hot as players tend to flock to games where they’re regularly winning.
  • Spend money on a bonus buy and trigger the bonus feature automatically. I don’t always win the amount I spend back, but I usually do.
  • Mix up the games you play by finding table games or specialty games with a high RTP and use that to increase your GC or SC balance before you return to the slots.
  • Set a limit on how many GC or SC you’re willing to part with. When you hit that limit, don’t chase your losses. Stop playing that slot game.
